Who we are
Wednesday’s Child, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization, whose mission is to facilitate the recruitment of quality foster and adoptive parents, to provide support for children and families in Kentucky’s child welfare system, and to connect children waiting on a forever family with educated and trained adoptive parents.
Our organization grew out of the WLKY weekly news features that began in 1980, featuring older children who were waiting on adoptive families. Viewers wanted to help the children they saw, but the station could not accept donations, so the non-profit was formed. Wednesday’s Child, Inc. is not part of the stations on air initiative; we are a completely separate entity.
We rely solely on private donations, which help pay for grass root recruitment efforts, as well as extra costs like school trips, music lessons, and tutoring for children in foster care. We also hold events and information sessions to raise awareness.
Our number one goal is to help connect abused and neglected children to a forever family.
