Providing Essentials for Physical and Emotional Needs

OUR FOCUS AND HOW WE HELP

Our Foster Children range in their needs. While it is important to help them participate in sports teams, music, dance and the like, we must equally ensure our foster children have their basic needs met. Below is an email request from a state employee that Wednesday’s Child has worked with for years. With their position, they know they can come straight to us for anything a child needs.

THE NEED

“We have a youth who entered care from some awful circumstances and has nothing, including shoes. He is a large [boy], 6’6” tall and wears a size 17 shoe. [He] needs a size 4X in big and tall men’s shirts and 3X big and tall men’s pants. He needs socks and of course, shoes. I have made an Amazon
order to get him through the winter, and it comes to $386.44.
Would Wednesday’s Child possibly be able to purchase these items for him?”
-Email from the Office of the Director of Department of Community-Based Services, State of Kentucky

Providing Essentials for Participation in Skill Development and Extracurricular Activities

Our Wish List Fund helps foster parents who cannot afford certain items so that foster children can fully participate in extracurricular activities, community events, and more. These are things like sports team fees, dance classes, summer camps, school club fees, you name it! Want to learn more or find out how YOU can help? Contact us today!

A Note from a Wish List Recipient

“I meant to tell you, Rediat was ecstatic over everything you got her, I mean EVERYTHING! She would take something out of the box, look at it, hold it up for me and her case manager to see, then hug it! She got really emotional a couple of times. Her happiness was so genuine. I threw in some stuff in with the school supplies like a couple of decks of cards, scissors, glue, etc, and I am already working on a Christmas box for her. This kid has gone without for a long time and she was so appreciative. I started to take a video so you could see her excitement, but I was afraid she would be self-conscious because her hair was a mess (she kept pointing to it and making a face), so she definitely loved all of the hair care stuff. You did a great job and I really appreciate it. Her case manager was also VERY impressed, she said that she has never seen DCBS and Wednesday’s Child come through like that for a kiddo.  YOU ARE THE BEST!!”
